Agent Status
Why a Local Component?
NatalieTool runs in the cloud so you can access it from any browser without installing anything heavy. But your Vertex Returns database and import program files live on your local machine or network — and for very good reasons, they are not exposed to the internet.
The Local Agent is a small companion service that bridges this gap. It runs quietly on your machine and handles the things that must happen locally:
Connects to your local SQL Server using Windows Authentication. Your credentials never leave your machine.
Runs the Vertex Returns import utilities from your local program files to load generated data into your database.
Writes generated data files and import outputs to directories on your local filesystem.
The agent listens only on localhost. Nothing is exposed to the network. Your browser talks to it directly.
Download
One installer, no dependencies. Runs on any Windows machine with a Vertex Returns database.
Version ... · Windows x86 · Self-contained (no .NET install required)
- Chrome: Click the ⇧ arrow (or Show more) on the download bar, then choose Keep anyway.
- Edge: SmartScreen may block the download entirely. Use the .zip option instead — extract the zip, then run NatalieToolSetup.exe from inside.
Installation
- Click one of the download buttons above
- If you downloaded the .zip, extract it first to get NatalieToolSetup.exe
- Run the installer — Windows Defender SmartScreen may show a “Windows protected your PC” warning. This is a reputation check, not a security concern — the installer is signed by Vertex. Click More info, then click Run anyway to proceed.
- The installer will place the agent in
Program Files (x86)\Vertex\NatalieTool - The agent starts automatically and will auto-start each time you log in
- Return to this page — the status indicator above will turn green
- Head to the home page and start using the tools
localhost.
This is expected — click Allow to let the web app talk to your local agent.
Staying Up to Date
The Local Agent checks for updates automatically each time it starts. If a newer version is available, you will see a prompt asking whether to update. Updates install silently and the agent restarts on its own — no manual downloads needed after the initial install.
